The Non-ferrous Metals Dept. is engaged in the recycling of aluminum, copper, zinc lead, etc. There
is huge demand for these metals in Japan. In aluminum can recycling, for example, we are bringing
our international organizing capabilities into full play in recovery and processing of raw materials,
inventory control and supply of products. We are also vigorously introducing new facilities to meet
demand from operators of aluminum-rolling plant.
Moreover, in accordance with the Basel Convention, Hanwa imports waste materials that are not recycled
overseas and recovers non-ferrous metals from them. For this business, we have already established
links with factories in Southeast Asia. Through effective recycling of metal resources, Hanwa is
contributing to protection of the global environment.

Metals & alloys Dept. fulfills an important social responsibility as a supplier of many metals for which there are no resources in Japan, such as chromium, manganese, silicon ore and ferroalloys of primary products.
We procure these metals directly from producers in China, South Africa, Kazakhstan, India, Turkey, Germany, Russia, Brazil and other countries. Using our own global network as well as relationships with strategic partners, we are constantly seeking to increase supplies of metal resources through various measures that include investments. We have storage facilities in all areas of Japan and in China.
Holding inventories of steel, specialty steel, stainless steel, cast products, aluminum, chemicals and other products allows us to maintain a consistent and reliable supply of these products for our customers. Hanwa ranks among the leading suppliers of metal resources in the world, serving customers not only in Japan, but also in China, India and other Asian countries and in Europe.

Manufacturers of stainless steel and specialty metals rely on Hanwa for a broad range of raw materials. We supply stainless steel scrap, molybdenum, tungsten, cobalt, titanium and many other materials.
Activities involve much more than a conventional trading company role. We supply materials with a consistently high quality by performing processing ourselves and controlling inventories. In Japan, we do more than buy and sell materials.
With import, export and offshore trading operations, we can sell raw materials to mills anywhere in the world. To maintain stability of prices and supplies, we combine spot
transactions with London Metal Exchange transactions to
hedge risks.

Solar silicon Dept. operations cover every step in the production of crystalline solar panels. We supply high-purity silicon as the initial raw material, and produce silicon ingots, wafers, solar cells and entire panels. There are two major sources of demand for solar panels. The first is to generate electricity in remote locations that are not served by electric utilities. Countries with emerging economies account for most of this demand. The second is to protect the environment. Solar panels can reduce CO2 emissions by replacing energy produced by fossil fuels.
And we deal in Silicon metal that is used in diverse range of final applications. One example is additives for aluminum alloys. Silicon metal is also used to supply the high-purity silicon required to make solar panels and semiconductor wafers. And silicon metal is the raw material for producing organic silicon. Demand for silicon metal required is expected.
