OM Sarawak Groundbreaking Ceremony
OM Materials (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, which is 80% owned by OM Holding, held a ground-breaking ceremony of its Ferro Alloy Smelding Project at the Samalaju Industrial Park in Sarawak, Malaysia on October 3.,2012. Hanwa, who is a shareholder and strategic partner of OM Holding and JFE Shoji Trade Corporation attended the ceremony from Japan. Those in attendance at the ceremony included the Right Honourable Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib bin Mahmud, Chief Minister of Sarawak, the Minister of Resource Planning and Environment, Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia and Singapore High Commissioner to Malaysia. The Chairman of Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhd and other local partners were also witnessed.
OM Sarawak is planning to execute the Project in two phases.
<Phase 1> Ferro silicon production facility in Plant A with 6 units of 25.5 MVA furnace and pland B with 10 unites of 25.5MVA furnaces, comsuming 360MW of power. Plant A&B will be scheduled to start production in 1st quarter in 2014. The production capacity is 308,000 tons p.a.
<Phase 2> Ferro manganese production facility in Plant C with 6 units of 25.5MVA furnace, consuming 140MW of power. Plant C will be scheduled to start production in the 2nd half of 2014. The production capacity is 265,000 tons p.a.
