Pollution Prevention, Resource Circulation, and Waste Management
Basic Concept
Environmental pollution caused by chemical substances and waste is a key issue that must be solved by society at large.
We promote environmental management based on ISO 14001, and comply with laws and regulations of Japan and related countries. In addition to ensuring appropriate management and operation regarding wastewater, exhaust, and hazardous waste, we make every effort to prevent pollution and aim to maintain zero serious environmental accidents.
In resource circulation, we have stated “Formation of a sustainable, sound material-cycle society” as part of our materiality, and are committed to the formation of a sound material-cycle society through business by handling recycling materials such as metal scrap. Furthermore, for some commodities, we are strengthening the procurement of raw materials with third-party certifications regarding sustainability, and work to reduce the impact on natural capital associated with raw material procurement. We also promote the recycling of waste generated from our operations, and aim to achieve a recycling rate of 83% or more in FY2025.
In waste management, we are committed to reducing of environmental impact through the reduction of waste generation and final disposal amounts. We implement separation, collection, and recycling throughout the entire life cycle of products, and promote efficient waste processing. Through these initiatives, we aim to reduce waste generation by 62% and disposal volume by 82% in FY2025 compared to FY2000.
We are committed to contributing to the preservation of the natural environment and the building of a sustainable society through pollution prevention, resource circulation, and appropriate waste management.
Structure
Please see below for our environmental management structure.
Initiatives for Pollution Prevention
Waste Management, and Promotion of Recycling
Under the Environmental Management System (EMS), we comply with relevant laws and regulations including the Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act, and are committed to reducing waste emissions associated with business activities and the promotion of recycling.
Compliance with Laws and Regulations and Audit Structure
We confirm the status of compliance with the Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act through periodic environmental audits.
Initiatives taken at the office
We are actively continuing measures aimed at waste reduction, such as thorough waste separation and reducing paper usage (promotion of paperless operations).
Promotion of recycling business
In addition to metal recycling and wood-based biomass fuel which we have been conducting, we are actively working on the recycling of waste plastic, waste oil, and waste tires, and are promoting material recycling, chemical recycling, and thermal recycling.
