Water Security

Basic Concept

Water resources are limited and precious natural capital on the Earth and are essential elements supporting business activities and people’s lives. However, risks of water scarcity and water quality deterioration are becoming serious due to global population growth, economic development, and climate change. We recognize this issue as an important corporate responsibility. Through environmental management based on the ISO 14001, and while complying with international frameworks and laws and regulations of Japan and related countries, we are committed to promoting the effective use and reuse of water resources, and reduce water usage and withdrawal. In particular, regarding water usage and withdrawal, we are committed to reducing them every year compared to the previous year. Through this, we are committed to contributing to the reduction of adverse environment impacts and the realization of a sustainable society.

Structure

Please see below for our environmental management structure.

Business Activities in Water-Stressed Regions

We evaluate water stress conditions at our domestic and overseas manufacturing bases using the “Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas” of the World Resources Institute (WRI), an international environmental NGO. In the FY2024 evaluation, bases in Thailand and Mexico were identified as falling into water-stressed regions, and the total annual water intake at these bases was 24,010 ㎥.
*Scope: Manufacturing bases within the consolidated Group

Initiatives for Reduction of Water Usage

We are committed to the efficient use of water and the reduction of water usage through recycling, as well as appropriate treatment in our domestic and overseas businesses. For example, at the Kobe Plant of our Group company, Seibu Service Co., Ltd., regarding water used in the cooling process for RPF manufacturing, we ensure strict operation by using only the necessary amount according to the production volume, stopping cooling water when not in use, and periodically checking equipment water levels. In addition, we are raising awareness at the site through notices regarding water saving.
