Occupational Health & Safety and Labor Practices
Basic Concept of Occupational Health & Safety
Health and Safety Policy
We have established a health and safety policy to create an environment where people, the Group’s greatest asset, can work with peace of mind. In accordance with this policy, we will continue to work to maintain and improve the health of our employees and create a comfortable working environment.
Hanwa Group Health and Safety Policy
1.Hanwa group companies regard people as our most important asset. We will create an environment where everyone can work with peace of mind regardless of age, race, gender, nationality, disability, or other attributes.Taking care of workloads and contents, we will prioritize improving the working environment, reducing the risk of work-related illness and enhancing physical and mental health.
2.We will promote management based on compliance with applicable labor standards and different laws and regulations in domestic and international business.
3.Under the leadership of executives, we will promote an effective occupational health and safety management system and strive to prevent occupational injuries and accidents.
4.We aim to create a good workplace where everyone can develop good communication within each organization and experience a sense of satisfaction and purpose in life.
Goals for Health and Safety

In order to achieve the above goals, we are implementing and verifying different measures.
Please see below for data related to Occupational Health & Safety and Labor Practices in our ESG disclosures.
Structure
We have established the Safety and Health Committee to
deliberate on important matters regarding safety and health,
with the aim of preventing employee accidents (disasters) and
diseases, and promoting health. With the General Safety and
Health Manager as the chairperson and the Personnel Dept. acting
as the secretariat, the committee consists of occupational
physicians, safety managers, health managers, and employees
including employee representatives, and meets once a month to
discuss and promote initiatives regarding safety and health.
Minutes are disclosed on the internal intranet as needed to
ensure awareness and education for all employees.
In the unlikely event of occupational injuries (labor
accidents), the Safety and Health Committee is structured to
consider measures to prevent recurrence. In addition, we
regularly report to the Board of Directors on specific measures
and progress regarding health promotion, such as the
implementation status of health checkups, as well as issues, and
receive supervision.
Basic Concept of Labor Practices
Compensation Structure
We determine wages by linking three systems: the job group
system which defines the roles and responsibilities required of
employees, the evaluation system which evaluates performance
based on behavior and results, and the compensation structure
which stipulates the composition of remuneration and how
evaluations are reflected. Under the remuneration system, in
addition to monthly salaries, wages are paid to employees as
bonuses, in principle twice a year.
In addition to complying with the laws and regulations of
the countries and regions where we conduct business, we ensure
wage levels that exceed statutory minimum wages and thoroughly
implement equal pay for equal work. We have introduced fair and
appropriate evaluation and remuneration systems based on job
content, roles, the magnitude of responsibilities, and
performance.
Initiatives for Occupational Health & Safety and Labor Practices
Dialogue with Employees
We have introduced an employee representative system to seek the opinions of employee representatives when creating or changing labor-management agreements or work regulations. At each business site, employee representatives are selected through voting or recommendation by employees to conclude agreements and work regulations, and to provide opinions. Employee representatives serve as members of the Safety and Health Committee and deliberate on important matters regarding safety and health.
Prevention of Overwork and Working Hours Management
We comply with laws and regulations of the countries and regions
where we conduct business activities, regarding labor, and
prevent excessive long working hours through the appropriate
tracking and management of working hours. Regarding employee
working hours, in addition to declarations made through the
attendance management system, we manage time using objective
data such as PC logs, and have established a system to check and
correct any discrepancies between the two.
Regarding overtime and holiday work, based on the Labor
Standards Act, we conclude agreements regarding overtime and
holiday work at each location and notify the relevant Labor
Standards Inspection Office. We manage overtime work within the
limits stipulated by laws and regulations, ensuring appropriate
operation even in cases of temporary special circumstances.
Furthermore, from the perspective of health maintenance,
for those confirmed to have exceeded a certain amount of
overtime, we provide guidance such as interviews by occupational
physicians. The status of these matters is regularly reported at
the Safety and Health Committee, allowing us to systematically
grasp the occurrence of long working hours.
Working for Health and Productivity Management
The Health and Productivity Management Declaration and Promotion Structure
We established the Hanwa Health and Productivity Management
Declaration on April 1, 2018. The president was designated the
Chief Health Officer (CHO), and the Health and Productivity
Management Office was set up in the Personnel Department.
In FY2022, we introduced a three major illness
compensation system to help employees balance treatment and
work. In April 2023, the organization was reorganized into the
Health and Productivity Management Section to further promote
health management. We were recognized as a Health &
Productivity Management Outstanding Organization 2024 (large
enterprise category) in March 2024. We will continue to promote
measures to promote the creation of an environment where all
employees can continue to be healthy, both physically and
mentally, and play an active role.
[Hanwa Health and Productivity Management Declaration]
[Enacted April 1st, 2018]
Hanwa Founder Jiro Kita believed that a trading company is its
people, and he worked on developing human resources and building
a healthy working environment under his philosophy that the
prosperity of a company and the welfare of its employees are
inseparable like the two halves of a whole. Based on this
philosophy, Hanwa views the management of employee health from a
business administration standpoint, and the company, employees,
and the health insurance society work as one to promote the
health of each employee and their family.
By promoting a working environment where employees can be
healthy, psychologically and physically, and can thrive, Hanwa
will contribute to society as a distribution specialist.
